Liza Minnelli - Liza Minnelli Performs At Friends' Baby Shower
Moss Mabry costume sketch for Liza Minnelli in Rent-
Singer Liza Minnelli ignored the pain of a broken wrist and gifted her friends with a live performance at their baby shower on Sunday (20Oct13), according to a U.S. report.
The Cabaret star, who will serve as godmother to the unnamed couple's baby, performed a 30-minute set, complete with a piano player, for the expectant parents and guests at a party in New York City.
A source tells the New York Daily News, "It was such a great New York moment, something you won't forget. Liza practically came out from behind the couch and started putting on her whole show."
Last week (begs14Oct13), Minnelli took to the stage, while still recovering from her wrist injury, to raise funds for research into breast cancer, which her sister Lorna Luft is currently battling.

Liza Presents Rolex Dance Award to Ann-Margret

At the Career Transition for Dancers Gala, held Tuesday, Oct. 8, at New York's City Center, living legend Liza Minnelli presented her friend Ann-Margret with the 2013 Rolex Dance Award, the same award Minnelli was given at last year's event.
After being introduced and beginning her tribute to Ann-Margret, a technical miscue occurred and the curtains rose to reveal Ann-Margret before Liza had a chance to properly finish her remarks.
Momentarily taken aback, Liza exclaimed, “Damn! I stayed up all night writing this!” and flashed her speech for all to see. Ann-Margret embraced Liza and said to her, “Can you believe the two of us are still alive?!”
Among her remarks, Liza was going to say (according to her publicist Scott Gorenstein), "I may be her biggest fan ... along with 32 million other people. Why? Because of who she is and how she makes us feel. I remember seeing her in a movie with Elvis Presley, and for the first time I was not looking at Elvis the entire time. I was looking at her!"

Judy Garland Would Have Approved Of Stonewall Riots, Says Daughter Lorna Luft

I think it’s a remarkable moment in history that is attached to my family, and I carry that with pride. I know that my mother would’ve said that everybody at Stonewall did the right thing: they stood up for themselves. The gay community had lost their legend and their icon, but I had just lost a parent, so I didn’t know about that for many years.”
– Entertainer Lorna Luft discussing her mother Judy Garland’s mythic connection to her legion of gay fans and the Stonewall riots which took place just after her death in 1969, in an interview with Huffington Post

When Liza Minnelli first appeared onstage Saturday night at the Circus Maximus Theater at Caesars, Atlantic City, members of the audience enthusiastically rose to their feet. The reason why is clear. As an iconic songstress, Liza's abundant talent shines bright to excite and enchant her public.

She is known nationally and internationally as a brilliant artist and a show-biz superstar. The theater was at full capacity, yet Liza made her fans feel as though they were an intimate part of her performance. Early in the show, she asked that the house lights be raised so she could see who she was singing to. "She said, I want to see you and I'm really glad you want to see me."
Minnelli opened the show with Teach Me Tonight, a song that set the stage for her versatile performance. With the ability to be alternately energetic, sentimental and dramatic, the evening included beloved pieces like Cabaret and the special duet, I Can't Give You Anything But Love, that she performed with her conductor and famed composer, Billy Stritch. Her musical accompaniment for the evening was perfect; the band that consists of musicians she has worked with for many years.
Liza declared the pleasure of having New York, New York written especially for her. The song began with her illuminated in a single spotlight and she thrilled the audience with her powerful rendition of the song.
As an encore, Liza delivered a special sentiment with the song, I'll Be Seeing You. And, so many people in the audience would delight at seeing Liza again and again. To say that
