- Liza Minnelli's life gets the comic book treatment!
Last week, Bluewater Productions released the comic book "Female Force: Liza Minnelli," which tells the life of the 68-year-old award-winning actress and singer. The new comic book features illustrations by Rafael Cordeiro and text by Michael L. Frizell.
In an email statement sent to The Huffington Post, Cordeiro called the creative process "a unique experience."
"A biography is a challenge for any artist, because you have to delve into someone else's life, interpret it and bring those memories back through graphical representations," Cordeiro explained. "This task is even more challenging when you're speaking about a person as legendary as Liza Minnelli."
Frizell added, "She is a singular talent whose body of work is unmatched in musical theater. Her powerful stage presence and talent are things I hoped to capture while writing the book."
This is not the first time Bluewater Productions produced titles based on gay icons. The production studio previously published similar titles about Barbra Streisand and Madonna. Publisher Darren G. Davis said Minnelli was a great addition as they want "to showcase the strong women in today's society that have inspired generations and shaped the culture of today," Huffington Post reported.
"Female Force: Liza Minnelli" is now available on iTunes as well as in physical print edition on Comic Flea Market.
Meanwhile, Minnelli is resting comfortably in a California hospital after having back surgery earlier this week, the Associated Press reported.
She thanked her fans for their support and well wishes after she accidentally broke her lower back. "I am overwhelmed with the amount of love and caring that has been sent my way from all over the world," she said in a statement Wednesday, Sept .17. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Her back injury prevented her from performing most of the year. She was not also able to attend the funeral of her good friend Joan Rivers in New York this month, as she was preparing for surgery in California at the time, Contactmusic reported. Minnelli has won a total of four Tony Awards, including a Special Tony Award. She has also won an Oscar, an Emmy Award, two Golden Globes and a Grammy Legend Award for her contributions and influence in the recording field, along with many other honors and awards.

She missed her good friend Joan Rivers' funeral last week due to an injury, requiring her to undergo back surgery.
And on Sunday, one week after Rivers' service, Liza Minnelli was spotted arriving to Los Angeles in a wheelchair.
The
68-year-old was assisted out of the LAX airport where she then stood up
with the aid of a cane as she flashed a smile despite suffering a lower
back injury.
Wearing dark sunglasses, the star appeared to be in an upbeat mood while clutching her ivory handled cane.
Liza topped her getup with a flowy turtleneck, shiny trousers, and leather shoes while toting a small black handbag.
The actress recently told New York Post columnist Cindy Adams that she injured
herself 'picking up my dogs' and will have to undergo surgery next week.I couldn’t go to Joan Rivers’ funeral, which I desperately wanted to because I loved her — but I couldn’t go because I can’t walk. I’m in bed. Going in for surgery,' the Oscar winner said.
'I
broke my lower back. Remember a few years ago I was in a wheelchair
because I had trouble with my spine? They operated on it then. Well,
now, again. They’ll have to fuse it.'
The Broadway legend then elaborated as to the specifics of the incident.
'I was
picking up my dogs — and they jumped. And I got twisted and fell. I
thought it’s nothing. But it wasn’t nothing. It became something. After
an X-ray, seems I busted it and have to have it fused. The operation’s
next week.'
The
Cabaret star has battled health issues for years and was even forced to
cancel several concert dates in May for an undisclosed issue.
In
the past she's also undergone two hip replacements, received a new knee
and in 2000 recovered from viral encephalitis, a potentially deadly
swelling of the brain
Following the news of Joan's death last week, Minnelli released a heartfelt statement.
'Joan was my dear friend and I will miss her but I will always remember the laughter and friendship she brought into my life.'
The
81-year-old comedian passed away after she stopped breathing while
undergoing endoscopic surgery and was put on life support.
On
Sunday mourners including Howard Stern, Hugh Jackman and Sarah Jessica
Parker turned up to pay their respects to the Fashion Police host at a
private funeral in New York.
Liza
and Joan had a friendship that went back decades and both starred in
the 1984 film The Muppets Take Manhattan as well as the 2008 Broadway
documentary Every Little Step.
