Broadway divas, classical divas, country divas. The Virginia Arts Festival's 2009 lineup announced this week is aglitter with female stars.Broadway legend Liza Minnelli comes to town early in the festival for a gala evening April 24 in Chrysler Hall. A month later, Broadway star Patti Lupone offers two fairly intimate shows May 24 in the Williamsburg Lodge. Subscribers will have first opportunity to purchase these shows when tickets go on sale Monday.Though headlines in recent years have detailed her drug and alcohol addictions and marital troubles, Minnelli is one of the few artists to win all four major entertainment awards, including Tonys for "Flora the Red Menace" and "The Act," an Oscar for "Cabaret," an Emmy for "Liza With a Z" and a Grammy Legend Award. In December, she returns to Broadway for a 10-day run at the Palace Theatre."We've been trying to get Liza Minnelli for a couple of years," says festival director Robert cross. "Her upcoming Broadway show will be backed by a 12-piece orchestra and four dancers."
