KSDK -- A local breast cancer survivor is about to get the meeting of a lifetime. Kate Bell is just days away from meeting her idol, the one and only Liza Minnelli, in St. Louis. Thanks to a letter from her daughter Meaghan, Kate is going to the Liza Minnelli show, and meeting her backstage.
"Cabaret" is the song Kate Bell said had been an important part of her life as long as she can remember. Even more important is the singer of that song: the legendary Liza Minnelli.
"She is in a league of her own and touches me in a way that nobody else does and I feel so connected to her," said Kate, a mother of three.
Kate believes both she and Minnelli have no use for moderation and feels they both enjoy a good time, even through life's trials and tribulations.
At just 36, Kate was diagnosed with breast cancer. Seven years later, Bell is battling another bout of cancer and a double mastectomy. With the support of family, friends, and her idol Liza, Kate Bell beat cancer again. Thanks to a special request from bell's daughter, Liza Minnelli has agreed to meet one of her biggest fans in St. Louis.
"It will just be the completion of a huge dream and for Kate's 50th birthday what could be better," said Ann Kammien, Kate's sister.
Liza Minnelli performs with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra at Powell Symphony Hall on Saturday June 4 at 8 p.m.
