The 19th annual “Living Landmarks” gala was a star-studded event attracting some 450 people to The Plaza ballroom on November 8th. Each year, The New York Landmarks Conservancy recognizes New Yorkers who have made outstanding contributions to the City and honors them as Living Landmarks. This year the honorees are: Daniel Boulud, Robert Caro, Peter L. Malkin, Liza Minnelli, James M. Nederlander, James L. Nederlander, and E. John Rosenwald, Jr. Scroll below for photos from the event!

The New York Landmarks Conservancy is dedicated to preserving, revitalizing, and reusing New York’s architecturally significant buildings. Through pragmatic leadership, financial and technical assistance, advocacy, and public education, the Conservancy ensures that New York’s historically and culturally significant buildings, streetscapes, and neighborhoods continue to contribute to New York’s economy, tourism, and quality of life.

The Conservancy advocates for preservation in Washington, Albany, and at City Hall by encouraging sound policies that incorporate preservation as an integral part of urban planning. To safeguard the more than 21,000 building protected by the City’s Landmarks Law, the Conservancy works closely with property owners, community groups, the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and other public agencies.

The Conservancy was founded in 1973 by a small group of architects, lawyers, planners, writers, and preservationists eager to save and reuse landmark buildings. Some early successes include saving the U.S. Custom House on Bowling Green and the Fraunces Tavern block, also in Lower Manhattan, restoring the Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn, and converting the Federal Archive Building in Greenwich Village to residential apartments and stores. The Conservancy is one of the leading preservation groups in the country. For more information see: www.nylandmarks.org. Photo Credit: Rob Rich
