'Judy Garland & Liza Minnelli Live at the London Palladium' Celebrated with Remastered Vinyl
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli Live at the London Palladium," Universal Music Enterprises has released a remastered 180-gram vinyl reissue of the 1965 classic recording which is available now.

The landmark concert took place on November 8 and 15, 1964 with studio retakes done in England later that month. The original recording was released by Capitol Records on August 2, 1965 as a two-LP set. The Universal Music Enterprises reissue is a remastered version of the 1965 release.

Like the original the 50th anniversary edition features Garland and daughter Minnelli performing separately and together on two vinyl discs, joining forces on "Hello Dolly!," "Together (Wherever We Go)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and several medleys. The new vinyl version of the album, which originally peaked at #41 on the Billboard 200 after its 1965 release, includes new liner notes by Liza Minnelli.

Liza wrote:

How did the Palladium concert come about? My mother tricked me into doing the show. She asked me to come perform in London with her but I declined. I felt I wasn't ready, I was too young. But Mama didn't take no for an answer. She went ahead and announced the concert to the press. When I saw the announcement in the newspaper I knew there was no turning back.

I'd performed with Mama on her TV series, and as big as that was for me, it wasn't anything liked standing and singing with her on a stage like the London Palladium. Listen, Mama owned whatever stage she was on. So we did it, and it was great and exhilarating and terrifying.

I don't know that I had much of a style at that point, but I was young and fresh and, well -- loud! I think Mama was a little startled. She was one of the most generous performers -- ask anybody she worked with. She always gave, never took. But something slightly competitive came out that night, an energy I hadn't seen before. Nerves be damned I was gonna give my all - all that I had in 1964 - and Mama was certainly going to give HER all. So there we were, the two of us, the ALL of us! I was thrilled to have done it, and survived it; there was great joy on the stage, and I'm so glad this recording survives.

After working with her, I was never nervous about appearing with anyone again. I had already appeared with the best. Its part of history I guess, though I don't think of myself like that. I suppose, for me, it's a personal history.

I hope that one day the complete concert will be released for everyone to enjoy. Until then, I hope you enjoy this new release of the original LP of my Palladium concert with Mama, who also happened to be Judy Garland. Thank you Mama ... for everything!

Liza Minnelli On How Legendary Concert with Judy Garland Came About: “My mother tricked me into doing the show”

Liza Minnelli has written new liner notes for the 50th anniversary edition of “Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli Live at the London Palladium” album. Universal is issuing a newly remastered vinyl edition for the occasion. The landmark concert took place on November 8 and 15, 1964 with studio retakes done in England later that month. The original recording was released by Capitol Records on August 2, 1965 as a two-LP set. The Universal Music Enterprises reissue is a remastered version of the 1965 release.
Here’s what Liza, who should do a book at this point, writes now.

How did the Palladium concert come about? My mother tricked me into doing the show. She asked me to come perform in London with her but I declined. I felt I wasn’t ready, I was too young. But Mama didn’t take no for an answer. She went ahead and announced the concert to the press. When I saw the announcement in the newspaper I knew there was no turning back.

She was one of the most generous performers — ask anybody she worked with. She always gave, never took. But something slightly competitive came out that night, an energy I hadn’t seen before. He claimed she arrived in "a cloud of medicinal marijuana smoke", but said that made her "cool" in his book, a sentiment Minnelli does not share as her representative has completely dismissed his version of events.
"It never happened," her spokesperson tells the New York Post.
"Liza saw him in [different play] Leap of Faith. Also, she does not smoke marijuana. [Liza saw Leap of Faith in] April, 2012, so he's way off."
Odom appeared to pre-empt the comment with a message penned on Twitter on Monday, in which he appeared to explain he was only joking with his comments on the US TV show.
"A.) Liza, I love you. The pot cloud is alleged. B.) Liza, was so kind to me bacjstage (sic) atLeap of Faith. I'll never forget it ever," he wrote.
Apparently the two shared a short conversation in which Minnelli enquired whether Odom had ever seen her perform.
When he admitted he hadn't, she responded: "Then you still have something to look forward to."
The issue of substance abuse is a sensitive one for Minnelli, as the 69-year-old star has spent time in rehab in the past, most recently in March.
In an interview with The Guardian newspaper in 2008, the star opened up about how hard controlling her intake of alcohol had been.
"My whole life, this disease has been rampant," she said. "I inherited it, and it's been horrendous, but I have always asked for help."
The star's mother Judy Garland suffered from her own addictions before overdosing in 1969.

Liza Minnelli cancels Broken Arrow appearance...

Posted: Wednesday, October 28, 2015 11:37 am | Updated: 3:15 pm, Wed Oct 28, 2015.

Acting and singing legend Liza Minnelli has canceled her national tour — including an appearance at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center — due to health concerns, according to the venue.
Minnelli was scheduled to perform Nov. 12, a bonus show on the Broken Arrow PAC’s big Spotlight Series that features some of the biggest names of stage and screen.
Refunds will be available to those who purchased tickets. For refund information, call the box office at 918-259-5778 or in person at 701 S. Main St. in downtown Broken Arrow. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Officials with Minnelli’s management said Minnelli’s doctor requested she cancel a series of shows to focus on improving her health.
“Liza Minnelli has been advised by her physician to cancel her upcoming concerts in Oklahoma and Texas. She deeply regrets that she will not be able to perform for her devoted fans and is very grateful for the love they have shown her throughout her career,” said manager Ken DiCamillo of WME Entertainment.
Officials with the Broken Arrow PAC said a replacement show is in the works for spring 2016, though details are still being determined.
“We wish Ms. Minnelli the best, and although we are disappointed, we realize her health is of the utmost importance,” said Mark Frie, executive director of the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center. “We thank our patrons for their support and excitement generated from this year’s line-up and promise to continue to bring legendary talent to the Kristin Chenoweth Theatre for years to come.”
More information about the show and upcoming shows is at brokenarrowpac.com.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Fear not, Liza Minnelli fans. The Broadway legend is still on schedule to perform in Wilmington next week even after having to cancel appearances across the pond this week.
“Liza Minnelli’s appearances in the UK were unfortunately cancelled because of the promoter’s failure to pay,” Minnelli’s publicist Scott Gorenstein told WWAY in an e-mail Friday. “Due to current economics and unusually high ticket prices, the producer was unable to secure the promised funds.”
Tickets to the shows, which Gorenstein said were not concerts, but Q&A with a moderator ending with Minnelli singing a few songs with piano accompaniment, reportedly cost about $450.
Gorenstein said the British cancellations do not affect Minnelli’s Oct. 3 performance in Wilmington, when she will join the North Carolina Symphony for the gala opening of Cape Fear Community College’s Humanities and Fine Arts Center.
A CFCC spokesman says the school has sold more than 1,000 tickets for the show in the 1,500-seat auditorium. Tickets for the black-tie event are $225. Proceeds benefit the CFCC Foundation.

http://www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/liza-minnellis-palladium-return-cancelled_38722.html

Tickets refunded for Liza Minnelli's Palladium concert~ The event has been called off by producers
Ticket holders for An Intimate Evening with Liza Minnelli, that was due to play at the Palladium on Sunday (20 September), have been refunded.
The show was due to be presented by veteran entertainer Bruce Forsyth and would have included an in-depth Q&A and a selection of songs. Tickets were priced up to £175.
Minnelli has a long association with the Palladium stretching back to 1964 when she joined her mother in concert. She performed solo concerts at the venue in 1973, 1978 and 1986.
The show was being produced by Rocco Buonvino, who was behind similar events featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
There has been no official statement from producers regarding the cancellation.
A representative of the Cabaret star said: "For months Liza has been preparing for these shows and she was devastated to hear of this unfortunate news. She has always thought of London a second home and will miss seeing her friends and devoted fans."
Minnelli's dates in Sheffield and Glasgow have also been cancelled.

Liza Minnelli Unfazed By Agent's Memoir

In June (15), Stevie Phillips released Judy & Liza & Robert & Freddie & David & Sue & Me in which she wrote about the drug abuse suffered by the star's late mother Judy Garland, and detailed Minnelli's own problems with addiction.
When asked about the book during an interview with Britain's Weekend magazine, Minnelli acts unaware of its existence and explains that she refuses to read anything about herself upon the advice of late actress Dame Elizabeth Taylor.
Minnelli says, "I never read any of that stuff... Because it might upset me... She (Taylor) told me she never read a single thing about herself, so I stopped, right there and then, which meant there was never anything lousy going around in my brain. That was good advice."
When asked if she would like to set the record straight with her own autobiography, she replies, "I don't feel like it. I don't want to do it unless I'm really enthusiastic about it. Right now I'm too enthusiastic about so many other things. The way I see it, I'm at the bow of a boat moving ahead. All the nonsense behind me is the wake and I'm impervious to it as I plough on."
Minnelli entered rehab earlier this year (15) to tackle substance abuse issues
